Shiseido – Multi-Defense UV Protector SPF 50 PA+++ Water Resistant

Sunscreen that can be washed off with normal cleanser
Sunscreen that can be washed off with normal cleanser

Shiseido is one of the forerunners in the development of whitening products. They have also been pushing out sunscreen that works well with their whitening products.  I bought the Multi-Defense UV Protector when I was looking for a sunscreen that does not require me to wash off with makeup remover. After a long day at work, all I wanted was to have a simple skincare regime that will not remove too much of my skin’s natural moisture (I was using oil based make up removers at that time). Then I received a Shiseido advertisement in my mailbox talking about this revolutionary sunscreen that can be washed off with normal facial cleanser, and immediately I jumped into it.

About the Product

From the Singapore Shiseido website, the product was described as:

Feather-light to the touch, this highly effective lotion-type UV protector is resistant to perspiration and sebum, providing ample protection against external aggressors such as UV rays, for the maintenance of beautiful, healthy-looking skin.

The ingredients of this product are:
・Exclusive OptiVeil-UV technology provides advanced protection from UVA/UVB rays that may cause photo-aging.
・Scutellaria Baicalensis* helps prevent UV damage to essential fibroblasts which produce collagen and elastin, the key elements to resilient, youthful-looking skin.
・Rose Apple Leaf Extract* helps prevent DNA damage caused by harmful UV rays.
・Hydro-Restoring Complex contains moisturizing amino acids that naturally exist in skin. Provides sufficient moisture for skin that is smooth to the touch.
・Thiotaurine combined with Rose Apple Leaf Extract* counteracts oxidation, the damaging process which accelerates skin aging.
・Free of any sticky residue, doubles as the ideal base for a long-lasting, beautiful foundation finish. Is easily removed with a daily cleanser.
・Water-resistant.
*in vitro test

*NON-COMEDOGENIC.
*DERMATOLOGIST AND OPHTHALMOLOGIST-TESTED.

The texture of the sunscreen is milky (if you had used sunscreens from Aqualabel or Anessa (drugstore products by Shiseido) or even Mentholatum, you will notice that the japanese sunscreen is usually milky and the texture varies based on the density of the milk). As with similar Japanese sunscreen, you are required to shake the bottle to mix the product before use. This product does not give a white powdery sheen on your skin compared to some of the other Japanese sunscreens, that tends to make your face look a shade whiter.

Using the Product

In case you don’t already know, the Multi-Defense UV Protector also acts as a makeup base. After your daily moisturizer, apply the Multi-Defense UV Protector on your skin before your foundation. I have used this together with my mineral powder foundation, and the results has been satisfactory. It held the powder well and presents a relatively smooth complexion on my combination skin. However, I have to also point out that I am in air-conditioned environment most of my time hence the review is only if you are in cooler and less humid environment. If I were to use the Multi-Defense UV Protector on its own without foundation or make up, I will use my clarisonic and my trusty facial foam to wash my face. No outbreaks on the next day!

Where to Buy the Product

I had bought my Shiseido products from their counters or from Duty Free Shop (its cheaper!) – including this Multi-Defense UV Protector. The small 30ml bottle is handy and fits into my handbag as I move around in the day. I could not find this product on the Shiseido’s Australian Website but I did find it on their Singapore Website. Please let me know if you can find this product in your home country so that I can share it with the readers of this blog!

Label Young – Shocking Toner Ver Coming Soon Kiss and Shocking Cream Ver. 3

image
Parabens free korean skincare products

Labelyoung first impressed the korean community with its Shocking Cream ver. 1, through blinded street tests where people were asked to make a comparison of the quality and effectiveness of the cream compared to creams already in the market. Since then, it has hit the korean community like a storm and coined as one of the most popular skincare products on social media.  I discovered Labelyoung’s Shocking Toner, Shocking Oil and Shocking Cream through Qoo10 (equivalent of Gmarket in Korea and Rakuten in Japan) where a shop was carrying these products. I scoured the internet for reviews and product information before I decided to give these products a try.

I have used the Shocking Toner Special Kiss ver and Shocking Cream ver 3 for more than a month now. You will notice from the image on this blog that I have barely used a third of the toner. I am about to finish my cream as I write this blog, and yes my toner is still 60% full. Accordingly, the 250ml bottle of the toner should last me about 100days. I think it will last me longer because each time I only use a red bean sized dollop.  I dix, however, realise thst had I sed the toner in an airconditioned room, I could have really finished my toner in 100 days.

Shocking Toner Special Kiss ver
This Shocking Toner, according to Labelyoung, is purple in colour because of the berries it had used to make the gel in the bottle. No parabens or harmful  chemicals were used in the manufacturing of the Shocking Series because the company believes in use of natural products for the benefit of our skin. The Shocking Toner is gel like and has a light scent. It aims to deliver hydration, whitening and anti-aging effects and is really light for humid temperature in asia. As you know, I have acne prone combination skin with pores that clog easily. Interestingly, when I started using the Shocking Toner, I had tried to use without the Shocking Cream, just to test if it will cause any breakouts. It does not, and it was slightly cooling when I apply it (note: you can put the toner in the fridge to chill it before using after you have cleansed your face). If your skin is not overly drying, you can also apply the Shocking Toner as a moisturizer.

Shocking Cream Ver. 3
The Shocking Cream, nicknamed Seonnyeo Cream in korean, is made of natural ingredience including 10,000mg of Phreatic Water and promises to deliver anti-aging and whitening effects; and claims that it is suitable for combination oily skin. I am generally fair so I cannot tell if whitening works. However, I must admit that this cream was really unique because the texture seems to be oil-free yet feels ‘stringy’ when you use the spatula provided to ‘scoop’ out a pea-sized content. It was like scooping out a really really watery macha (or in hokkien “muah chee” or glutinous cakes). Once you have the product on your hand, the product turns into a really light cream and you can warm it with your palms before you spread the cream on your face. I find the hydration is sufficient, but oil control wise, it does seem to have some effects (note: your face will not be oil-free totally, just that the oil may surface later).

I really like Label Young’s products so far, and have also ventured to use its Shocking Oil on days I find I need further hydration. No only did my skin stay acne free and more radiant (was told my face looked as if I had a facial after using it for a month), it also feel less ‘stressed’ because the products do not contain compounds that could irritate my skin.  I have since purchased other Shocking Toners and Creams to try when I have finished with the above.

Where to Buy Label Young Products
Label Young Toner and Creams are less than S$30 each on average.  A few ways to purchase Label Young Products:
1) Visit Qoo10 and look for the shop “q-trading” or search for “labelyoung” – if you live in Singapore or Malaysia;
2) Google for “koreandepart” and visit the international website which carries lots of korean cosmetics and products; or
3) Visit http://www.labelyoung.com and make sure you turn on the translation coz the website is all written in Korean. For those of you who are making a trip to Seoul, just to let you know I could not find the Label Young products in any of the shops in MyeongDong. It might be better if you have some Korean friends who lived in Korea and could order the products for you online.

If you are looking for natural products or are wondering which product to buy next to try, you can check out Label Young and give it a try!

Bioderma – Sensibio H2O Solution Micellaire Peux Sensibles

Its been a long while since I last share my review on the products that I have used. I went to Korea for a short shopping trip during the past months and hope to share my reviews on some of the popular Korean cosmetics with you i  my subsequent posts. Here it is, my review on Bioderma Sensibio which I have used for a month.

This fragrance-free cleanser is mild yet effective in removing waterproof makeup. As you can see from the picture, it is clear watery solution that does not sting or gives burning sensation after you have applied in your skin. I said skin because this gentle remover or cleanser can be used on both face, eye and body.

How Do I Use It?
Take a cotton pad and soak it with Sensibio. Wipe the wet cotton pad on your face to remove makeup or sunscreen after a long day. Do it a few times until your cotton pad is clear.

Can Use Clarisonic for Second Cleanse?
Sure you can! But be cautioned that you might be over cleansing your face. I am a dual cleanse freak so I still use Clarisonic with Sensitive Brushhead. I didnt get outbreaks from over cleansing, neither did I end up with super dry skin. That said if you are also into dual cleansing, please make sure you use very gentle cleansers and slather your skin with good paraben or sulfates free toner and moisturizer to reduce potential irritation. Note: i have combination oily skin that clogs easily.

How Much Does It Cost?
Its about S$39.90 for 500ml in Singapore in guardian and Watsons but I managed to find a vendor who sells cheaper online. Have since stocked up about 5 bottles.

How Does This Compare to Sephora Triple Cleansing Water?
Both products are oil-free and cleanses off the makeup really well. Both allows me to have second cleanse but in terms of accessibility, Sensibio is sold in all drug stores in Singapore and easier to get hold off. For amount of use, i am likely to use more of sensibio because of its 500ml bottles. Sephora leaves a layer of moisture lotion on your skin, while Sensibio do too, the lotion feels thinner. Either way, i think both products are good in their own way. I vote for both!

I hope the above helps!
