California Baby – Calendula Cream

Who said that baby products cannot be skincare products? I came across California Baby’s Calendula Cream (and several of its products) after learning from my sister how effective it has been in bringing down mosquito bites and mild cuts in children. Recently, there was a sale on Pupsik Studio, so I bought the item to give it a try.

California Baby Calendula Cream.jpg

I bought this little tube when I had a sudden bout of outbreaks due to lack of sleep. My chin was red and inflammed with pimples and acne. After reading about how people with eczema and sensitive skin had experienced positive effects of this drug, I decided to give this a try on my skin.

About this Product

This product is “excellent for use on general diaper area and may be used on face and body for extra-dry or sensitive skin. Botanically based, our light and fluffy Calendula Cream contains the ingredient of Calendula, which has been used to soothe the skin for centuries. California Baby® Calendula Cream offers deep hydration, absorbs completely, and leaves skin feeling satiny smooth. Use daily for everyday protection and especially when the air is dry and baby’s skin needs relief. The entire family can benefit from this soothing, multipurpose cream.” The benefits of this product are: “(1) Contains organic and sustainably grown ingredients; (2) Calendula officinalis is the common pot marigold and is well known for its soothing properties; (3) May be used around the diaper area; (4) it is “Hypo-allergenic”; and (5) it has “Light and fluffy consistency” ” – from the California Baby website. There have been many reviews about this Calendula cream, and how it had made a difference to parents who want to use organic products on their babies and children, and to those who suffer from eczema and acne.  Calendula helps to sooth and calm irritated skin rather effectively. Suffered a mosquito bite? Slather this on!

Using the Product

The website stated that “The calendula cream is perfect when the skin is irritated and is also a terrific cream to use around the delicate eye area. Especially appreciated when soothing & healing are needed. Reach for this cream when your skin is especially dry or need TLC.”  I havent used it around my eye area (but close enough!) but I DID use it on my ENTIRE face! My observations? The cream is light so it does not feel greasy at first (fact is, given my oily T-zone, it will feel greasy in a couple of hours!). I suffered from a bad bout of acne and pimple outbreak around my chin area (which has been clear for a long time) recently due to lack of good quality sleep and was quite anxious over the redness on my chin area. I slathered this over the painful and reddish area, and it brought down the redness in 2-3 days! It also calmed down the early onset of acne overnight! Importantly, my skin also felt more hydrated after I started using this Calendula Cream because when I wash my face with amino acid based cleansers like Senka Perfect Whip, it does feel dry on the surface but after I started using this, not anymore! I also dont feel the tightness / dryness on my T-zone (I always say that I have dry skin surface but oily inner layers of the skin) when I enter air-conditioned office. However, I must clarify that the product did not improve or help to balance my oily T-zone after I’ve used it for 1 week. Naturally so, because it is not a beauty product that has been enhanced to achieve such effects. Its a multi-purpose balm!

I will continue to use this cream, simply because its hydrating, doesn’t break me out and helps me address my red and inflammed acne. It is organic so I am not afraid of using more of it. It does not contain sulfates, phalates or harmful chemicals (from the ingredient list) and it seems to be very popular with children who suffer multiple allergies. Will I top this up? Yes! Just that when I do use this, I will have to remember to apply my sunscreen over it because this cream does not come with SPF. California Baby has a separate product which is a sunscreen, and that is popular as well. I may just try it too!

Where to Buy the Product

I ordered mine online, via Pupsik Studio in Singapore. Delivery was fast and customer service is good. You can also buy it off Watsons in Singapore at the usual retail price at about S$30+ per 2oz tub.  Alternatively, you can visit California Baby’s official website to purchase the products.

Hourglass Cosmetics – Ambient Lighting Powder and Ambient Lighting Palette

Hourglass Ambient Series.jpgI have read about Hourglass Cosmetics’ Ambient Lighting Powders and Ambient Lighting Palette. I could not find Hourglass products in Singapore, so I ordered it off its USA website and had it shipped to Singapore. As you can see from the picture on the left, I bought an Ambient Lighting Power (Diffused Light) and Ambient Lighting Palette. I have been using the Diffused Light for a while and I can’t wait to share with you how it felt and what feedback I have been receiving since I started using it. Before I go on, I must thank Dorkchops for sharing with me information on Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder some months back, which helped me figure out which powder to purchase without testing it first.

About the Product

I shall not be talking to much about the ingredients used in the Ambient Lighting Powders and Ambient Lighting Palette. You can look at them through the image that I’ve provided in this post. However I would like to describe to you what I think about the product.  The product is made of finely milled ingredients compressed into cake, which explains why it is fragile and needs to be handled carefully lest it breaks and shatters. If you were to rub your fingers onto the cake, it will pick up a thin film of powder on your finger that gives out such subtle glow when it comes into contact with light. With Diffused Light, the light reflected is subtle yet refined. It is not shiny and really, I can’t see any difference when I dust it on my face with my contoured brush. That’s not important – I mean the whole point about wearing makeup is for others to see, right?

Using the Product

Usually, I wear my bareMinerals foundation and Tarte blusher to work (no lipsticks coz I don’t want lipsticks on my mug – as much as I love my collection of lipsticks). On the first day I tried on Diffused Light, I put it all over my face.  When I got into the office, I was stopped by a female colleague working in the same office, asking me why there is this bright glow on my face. On another day where I decide to change and only applied Diffused Light on my forehead, nose bridge and over my cheek after I’d applied blusher, another colleague whom I’d known for several years sat across me (about 2m away), and commented that my skin seemed to have improved so much (I had problem skin) that there is a glow from within. I laughed and told her its “make up magic”. Honestly, when I got home, I did realise that the Ambient Lighting Powder did seem to blur out my long lasting Tarte blusher and delivered a soft and subtle pink from the blusher. Maybe that’s where the healthy glow from within came from! Boy, I am so going to stock up on Diffused Light when I finish mine!

Purchasing the Product

Hourglass Cosmetics is not available in Singapore – so those in Singapore will have to order the Ambient Lighting product online via its USA website (without going through any shopping agent). If you are using comGateway or 65daigou to help you purchase items from overseas, you can also order Hourglass Cosmetics products from Sephora USA website.

Have you used Hourglass Ambient Lighting? Do you think it has worked for you?

Clio – Pro Makeup Lip & Eye Remover (Perfect & Easy Cleansing)

Clio Pro Makeup Lip and Eye Remover.jpgI bought this product when it was on sale back in June 2014. Clio was having a buy two for the price of one. I had a quick swipe and it went straight into my shopping basket.

About the Product

Those of you who have used Clio’s Kill Bill or Gelpresso lines will be familiar with this brand. Its just that this makeup remover could not be found in Singapore. This is one of those oil and water type of make up remover, but what is amazing is that it has a pleasant scent, and it does wipe off the Clio waterproofs very well. I’ve even use it to remove my lipsticks and they come of clean, without drying my lips. One thing to note though, due to the packaging of this product, you may not realise that you have to shake the bottle to mix the contents before you just pumping out the product onto your cotton pads.

Using the Product

Shake the bottle, and pump it into your cotton pad. For removing eye shadows and eye liners, gently lay the wet cotton pad on your eyes for a few seconds and then swipe lightly. Tadah! The shadows and eye liners come off! If you want to be absolutely sure you’ve removed the liners (esp those with glitters), you can fold into a corner, and run it lightly along your eye lines, until your cotton pads do not pick up anymore residues. To remove your lipstick, wet your cotton pad with the product and then lay it over your lips gently. Give it a few seconds before you lightly wipe your lips with the cotton pad. Again, you can fold the cotton pad into corners to run it around the edges of your lips (esp if you like lip pencils or you are prone to outbreaks if you do not remove your lipsticks properly).

Where to Buy the Product

I like this product and I will buy more if I run out! I can’t find this in Singapore, but if you have Club Clio around your town or city, you’ll have a much better chance to find this product in the stores. Koreadepart carries something similar but its called Waterproof Makeup Lip & Eye Remover.

Label Young – Shocking Toner Ver Coming Soon Kiss and Shocking Cream Ver. 3

image
Parabens free korean skincare products

Labelyoung first impressed the korean community with its Shocking Cream ver. 1, through blinded street tests where people were asked to make a comparison of the quality and effectiveness of the cream compared to creams already in the market. Since then, it has hit the korean community like a storm and coined as one of the most popular skincare products on social media.  I discovered Labelyoung’s Shocking Toner, Shocking Oil and Shocking Cream through Qoo10 (equivalent of Gmarket in Korea and Rakuten in Japan) where a shop was carrying these products. I scoured the internet for reviews and product information before I decided to give these products a try.

I have used the Shocking Toner Special Kiss ver and Shocking Cream ver 3 for more than a month now. You will notice from the image on this blog that I have barely used a third of the toner. I am about to finish my cream as I write this blog, and yes my toner is still 60% full. Accordingly, the 250ml bottle of the toner should last me about 100days. I think it will last me longer because each time I only use a red bean sized dollop.  I dix, however, realise thst had I sed the toner in an airconditioned room, I could have really finished my toner in 100 days.

Shocking Toner Special Kiss ver
This Shocking Toner, according to Labelyoung, is purple in colour because of the berries it had used to make the gel in the bottle. No parabens or harmful  chemicals were used in the manufacturing of the Shocking Series because the company believes in use of natural products for the benefit of our skin. The Shocking Toner is gel like and has a light scent. It aims to deliver hydration, whitening and anti-aging effects and is really light for humid temperature in asia. As you know, I have acne prone combination skin with pores that clog easily. Interestingly, when I started using the Shocking Toner, I had tried to use without the Shocking Cream, just to test if it will cause any breakouts. It does not, and it was slightly cooling when I apply it (note: you can put the toner in the fridge to chill it before using after you have cleansed your face). If your skin is not overly drying, you can also apply the Shocking Toner as a moisturizer.

Shocking Cream Ver. 3
The Shocking Cream, nicknamed Seonnyeo Cream in korean, is made of natural ingredience including 10,000mg of Phreatic Water and promises to deliver anti-aging and whitening effects; and claims that it is suitable for combination oily skin. I am generally fair so I cannot tell if whitening works. However, I must admit that this cream was really unique because the texture seems to be oil-free yet feels ‘stringy’ when you use the spatula provided to ‘scoop’ out a pea-sized content. It was like scooping out a really really watery macha (or in hokkien “muah chee” or glutinous cakes). Once you have the product on your hand, the product turns into a really light cream and you can warm it with your palms before you spread the cream on your face. I find the hydration is sufficient, but oil control wise, it does seem to have some effects (note: your face will not be oil-free totally, just that the oil may surface later).

I really like Label Young’s products so far, and have also ventured to use its Shocking Oil on days I find I need further hydration. No only did my skin stay acne free and more radiant (was told my face looked as if I had a facial after using it for a month), it also feel less ‘stressed’ because the products do not contain compounds that could irritate my skin.  I have since purchased other Shocking Toners and Creams to try when I have finished with the above.

Where to Buy Label Young Products
Label Young Toner and Creams are less than S$30 each on average.  A few ways to purchase Label Young Products:
1) Visit Qoo10 and look for the shop “q-trading” or search for “labelyoung” – if you live in Singapore or Malaysia;
2) Google for “koreandepart” and visit the international website which carries lots of korean cosmetics and products; or
3) Visit http://www.labelyoung.com and make sure you turn on the translation coz the website is all written in Korean. For those of you who are making a trip to Seoul, just to let you know I could not find the Label Young products in any of the shops in MyeongDong. It might be better if you have some Korean friends who lived in Korea and could order the products for you online.

If you are looking for natural products or are wondering which product to buy next to try, you can check out Label Young and give it a try!
