Abidis – Locion Equilibriante sin Alcohol (Balancing Lotion with no Alcohol)

wp-1486092221476.jpgOkay this is a product that I must talk about. Its Abidis Locion Equilibriante (Abidis Balancing Lotion). It has no Alcohol and aims to hydrate the skin while you tone it.

About the Product

I was told by my beautician at Face Essensuals that Abidis is a Spanish brand and they usually produce their products in small quantities. This particular product is a Balancing Lotion that is suitable for combination skin or oily skin. It has a minty flora scent and the skin feels hydrated when the lotion is applied (but not hydrated enough to be used on its own). When the watery Lotion drys out, you will feel a very thin coat on your skin that seems to seal in the moisture. You can use any moisturizer on top of this Lotion. The Lotion is bluish green in colour (I have used up the bottle in the picture) and is very watery, often leaving a mild cooling sensation after you apply for a few seconds.

Using the Product

Currently, I am using this Lotion together with my Physiogel Calming Relief Face Cream. The Lotion is not drying and beats the other Toners  or Lotions from the japanese or korean off the rack products. It did improve my skin hydration in the day and helped me stave away from acne due to dry or dehydrated skin. At night, I use another Abidis product on top of the above (less is more) to boost healing and recovery of my skin. I hope to share it with you soon.

Where to Purchase the Item

I bought this from my beautician, Face Essensuals, located at Midpoint Orchard along Orchard Road. You will not find this product on the shelves and will have to purchase through salons or main distributor for this product. The photo of the product in the picture is the old packaging and retails at S$56 a bottle. Please call Serina at Face Essensuals to order your bottle as stock is usually limited to ensure freshness.

California Baby – Calendula Cream

Who said that baby products cannot be skincare products? I came across California Baby’s Calendula Cream (and several of its products) after learning from my sister how effective it has been in bringing down mosquito bites and mild cuts in children. Recently, there was a sale on Pupsik Studio, so I bought the item to give it a try.

California Baby Calendula Cream.jpg

I bought this little tube when I had a sudden bout of outbreaks due to lack of sleep. My chin was red and inflammed with pimples and acne. After reading about how people with eczema and sensitive skin had experienced positive effects of this drug, I decided to give this a try on my skin.

About this Product

This product is “excellent for use on general diaper area and may be used on face and body for extra-dry or sensitive skin. Botanically based, our light and fluffy Calendula Cream contains the ingredient of Calendula, which has been used to soothe the skin for centuries. California Baby® Calendula Cream offers deep hydration, absorbs completely, and leaves skin feeling satiny smooth. Use daily for everyday protection and especially when the air is dry and baby’s skin needs relief. The entire family can benefit from this soothing, multipurpose cream.” The benefits of this product are: “(1) Contains organic and sustainably grown ingredients; (2) Calendula officinalis is the common pot marigold and is well known for its soothing properties; (3) May be used around the diaper area; (4) it is “Hypo-allergenic”; and (5) it has “Light and fluffy consistency” ” – from the California Baby website. There have been many reviews about this Calendula cream, and how it had made a difference to parents who want to use organic products on their babies and children, and to those who suffer from eczema and acne.  Calendula helps to sooth and calm irritated skin rather effectively. Suffered a mosquito bite? Slather this on!

Using the Product

The website stated that “The calendula cream is perfect when the skin is irritated and is also a terrific cream to use around the delicate eye area. Especially appreciated when soothing & healing are needed. Reach for this cream when your skin is especially dry or need TLC.”  I havent used it around my eye area (but close enough!) but I DID use it on my ENTIRE face! My observations? The cream is light so it does not feel greasy at first (fact is, given my oily T-zone, it will feel greasy in a couple of hours!). I suffered from a bad bout of acne and pimple outbreak around my chin area (which has been clear for a long time) recently due to lack of good quality sleep and was quite anxious over the redness on my chin area. I slathered this over the painful and reddish area, and it brought down the redness in 2-3 days! It also calmed down the early onset of acne overnight! Importantly, my skin also felt more hydrated after I started using this Calendula Cream because when I wash my face with amino acid based cleansers like Senka Perfect Whip, it does feel dry on the surface but after I started using this, not anymore! I also dont feel the tightness / dryness on my T-zone (I always say that I have dry skin surface but oily inner layers of the skin) when I enter air-conditioned office. However, I must clarify that the product did not improve or help to balance my oily T-zone after I’ve used it for 1 week. Naturally so, because it is not a beauty product that has been enhanced to achieve such effects. Its a multi-purpose balm!

I will continue to use this cream, simply because its hydrating, doesn’t break me out and helps me address my red and inflammed acne. It is organic so I am not afraid of using more of it. It does not contain sulfates, phalates or harmful chemicals (from the ingredient list) and it seems to be very popular with children who suffer multiple allergies. Will I top this up? Yes! Just that when I do use this, I will have to remember to apply my sunscreen over it because this cream does not come with SPF. California Baby has a separate product which is a sunscreen, and that is popular as well. I may just try it too!

Where to Buy the Product

I ordered mine online, via Pupsik Studio in Singapore. Delivery was fast and customer service is good. You can also buy it off Watsons in Singapore at the usual retail price at about S$30+ per 2oz tub.  Alternatively, you can visit California Baby’s official website to purchase the products.

Origins – Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil

Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing.jpg I bought the first Origins product when I was leaving Singapore for Bali couple of weeks ago. I bought it because I wanted to find an easy to use product (without cotton pads) that will help remove sunscreen on my face. I was hoping to grab something more natural and it is when I came upon Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil.
About the Product

From Origins website, “This lightweight, high-tech, hybrid formula with non-comedogenic, Olive, Sunflower, Sesame and Safflower Oils removes dirt, makeup and pollutants with high efficiency. Kukui Nut and Macadamia help protect precious natural moisture resources. Vitamin E helps reduce effects of environmental hazards such as irritation that can threaten the comfort of skin. Skin breathes freely. And the energizing aroma of Grapefruit, Orange and Lemon renew your spirits.” Most importantly, it is best for all skin types!  Reviews on internet has given this product a thumbs up because of its ability to help improve their skin condition after long term use, as well as unclog their blackheads etc. Some claim that they ditched their original cleansing regime for this affordable cleansing oil!  The only down side is that the product may be a little messy when it comes to dispensing. I read that this product does come with a larger size (not in Singapore) and has a pump. That would definitely improves user experience! 😀

Ingredients (From the Bottle) : Olive Fruit Oil, Safflower Seed Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Grape Seed Oil, peg-25 glyceryl trioleate, Macademia integrifolia Seed, Kukui Seed Oil, Orange Peel Oil, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Lemon Peel Oil, Bergamot Fruit Oil, Grapefruit Peel Oil, cedrus atlantica bark oil, Patchouli Oil, Clary Sage Oil, Rosemary Leaf Oil, Geranium Flower Oil, Australian Sandalwood Oil, Sandalwood Bark Oil, Linalool, Limonean, Sorbital Trioleate, Tocopheyl Acetate

Using the Product

During my 1 week stay in Bali, I had applied sunscreen every morning, and removed it using this cleansing oil at night. I will massage the oil onto my skin for about 1-2 minutes with dry fingers and hands, making sure I massage more in areas where I have larger pores to help unclog it. Then I will wet my hands and gently massage my skin again so that I help to emulsify the oil. This is followed by a rinse of my face.  I find the scent rather soothing and refreshing (scents are quite personal so do try it at the Origins counter before you buy it), and it did clear up my skin  quite well. At least, it stopped further outbreaks on my chin (okay, maybe the restful sleep at the resort did help too) and honestly, my pores do feel cleaner after using it. My skin feels hydrated after rinsing and not taut. No oily feel! It is a bottle that I believe I will restock once my Senka Cleansing Oil is used up. 🙂

Where to Buy the Product

I bought mine at Duty Free Shop at the Singapore Changi Airport and it retails for about SGD35. You can purchase this item from the Origins counter in your home country of course.  Origins USA website retails it for USD29, but I found it slightly cheaper on Beauty.Com selling for USD26.

Have you tried this Cleansing Oil before? What do you think of it?

Neal’s Yard Remedies – Rehydrating Rose Facial Oil

image

I have been using NYR’s Rehydrating Rose for a few weeks now and I am very please with the product.

About the Product
Neal’s Yard Remedies or NYR was first set up in UK as Neal’s Yard Apothecary in 1981 by Romy Fraser. They launched their classic product, Frankincense & Myrrh Skin Cream (later Frankincense Nourishing Cream), which is still a favourite product today. From its website, NYR make their products with “the maximum organic, natural and wild ingredients, and carefully select other functional ingredients (detergents, emulsifiers, surfactants etc) with a view to safety, efficacy and biodegradability.” Their “entire range makes use of high quality organic plant-based ingredients, and we fully disclose our ingredient information with [their] customers, both online and, where space allows, on [their] packaging.” NYR products do not contain the following:

  • No silicones – they coat skin, and impede its natural function
  • No mineral oils – derived from petroleum, and have a tendency to block the skin
  • No parabens – these are linked to hormonal imbalances
  • No GM ingredients – not enough is known about possible long-term implications
  • No phthalates – it’s reported they have toxic impact on humans and animal life
  • No propylene glycol – derived from petroleum
  • No animal testing – unnecessary and cruel
  • No DEA – associated with known carcinogens
  • No EDTA – (powerful metal chelator), and doesn’t biodegrade readily
  • No acrylates – derived from petroleum
  • No nano – not enough is known about its long term implications
  • No BHT – linked to breathing and lung impairment

On the ingredients in Rehydrating Rose Facial Oil (marked as vegan product):

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Corylus Avellana (Hazelnut) Seed Oil*+, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil*, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Wax, Pogostemon Cablin Leaf Oil*, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil*, Citral, Citronellol, Eugenol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

Using the Product

After toning your face, place 2 to 3 drops in the palms of your hands to spread before applying on your face. This helps to warm the oil to increase absorption by your skin. Spread the warmed oil on your face, always starting from the center and gently spread outwards. I usually will start from the tip of the nose and then the cheeks towards the ears. For the forehead and chin, i will place one of my warm hands with oil on either sides and apply the product before massaging in: horizontally left and right for forehead, upward motion to either side of the cheeks from the chin. As i work in air conditioned room everyday, i may take one more drop than my usual dose so that I can use the product like a mask to hydrate my skin further. If you do just like me, remember to use a tissue to dab off the excess oil on your skin before applying a light moisturizer over your face to seal in the moisture.

If you use the oil at night like me, you should find that your face brighter and more dewy in the morning. I just love this product!

Where to Buy the Product
All NYR outlets! There is only one NYR outlet in Singapore at Millenia Walk Level 1. Its a small outlet with limited products compared to the outlets in UK. Alternatively if you are into online shopping or daigou you can check out Taobao, Amazon or Qoo10 to see if anyone carries the product into your country.

Please let me know if you are currently using any of the NYR products and what you think of it! 🙂

Clio – Pro Makeup Lip & Eye Remover (Perfect & Easy Cleansing)

Clio Pro Makeup Lip and Eye Remover.jpgI bought this product when it was on sale back in June 2014. Clio was having a buy two for the price of one. I had a quick swipe and it went straight into my shopping basket.

About the Product

Those of you who have used Clio’s Kill Bill or Gelpresso lines will be familiar with this brand. Its just that this makeup remover could not be found in Singapore. This is one of those oil and water type of make up remover, but what is amazing is that it has a pleasant scent, and it does wipe off the Clio waterproofs very well. I’ve even use it to remove my lipsticks and they come of clean, without drying my lips. One thing to note though, due to the packaging of this product, you may not realise that you have to shake the bottle to mix the contents before you just pumping out the product onto your cotton pads.

Using the Product

Shake the bottle, and pump it into your cotton pad. For removing eye shadows and eye liners, gently lay the wet cotton pad on your eyes for a few seconds and then swipe lightly. Tadah! The shadows and eye liners come off! If you want to be absolutely sure you’ve removed the liners (esp those with glitters), you can fold into a corner, and run it lightly along your eye lines, until your cotton pads do not pick up anymore residues. To remove your lipstick, wet your cotton pad with the product and then lay it over your lips gently. Give it a few seconds before you lightly wipe your lips with the cotton pad. Again, you can fold the cotton pad into corners to run it around the edges of your lips (esp if you like lip pencils or you are prone to outbreaks if you do not remove your lipsticks properly).

Where to Buy the Product

I like this product and I will buy more if I run out! I can’t find this in Singapore, but if you have Club Clio around your town or city, you’ll have a much better chance to find this product in the stores. Koreadepart carries something similar but its called Waterproof Makeup Lip & Eye Remover.

Laneige – Moisture Lip Balm

Laneige Moisture Lip Balm.jpgI bought the Laneige Moisture Lip Balm when I was in Seoul last year. This was part of my Myeong Dong haul in June 2014. It was not a planned purchase. Rather, it was because I was experiencing dry and chappy lips, and I bought it out of desperation to heal my lips.

About the Product

This product, as you can see from the image on the left, dispense out of a tube. Its a small tube no longer than a 15cm short ruler. It is very portable and I carry this around me every day in my makeup purse. The product is an opaque gel like texture that is easy to apply. From the Laneige website, it said that this is a “Lip Balm with triple effects: hydrating + healing chapped/dry lips + preventing the signs of aging lips”. It also went on to elaborate that for:

1) Hydrating effect

Water Friendly Polyols Technology gives deep hydration. Also its Lip Care Complex provides an Immediate hydrating effect and long-term moisturizing. (Oil complex prescription with peach stone, apricot stone & plum stone)

2) Healing chapped/dry lips

Water Friendly Polyols Technology & Lip Care Complex prevent dryness and heals chapped lips.

3) Preventing the signs of aging lips

The ingredient, Adenosine, has an anti-wrinkle effect and stimulates cell function. Also Texture Enhancing Technology makes lip texture soft and immediately adds energy to dry and inelastic lip.

Using the Product

I like the texture of the gel, and how easy it is to apply on my lips. Usually, with a cleaned finger, I will dap a 2mm drop and smooth it onto my lips. It helps with moderately dry lips (ie mild peeling cases) but I didn’t find that it works as quickly or effectively for severely chapped lips. I would usually apply this before I use my favourite VDL Triple Lip Tint just to boost the moisture level. Typically, after using this item, I will find the dry skin falling off to reveal smooth and hydrated lips. This tube of 15ml can last quite a while if you are only applying the product on need basis. It is non oily and can work as a subtle gloss if you do not like your gloss to deliver high shine.

Buying the Product

This product is available in most Laneige counters. If you are in Myeong Dong, you may be able to find this product in places such as Watsons. Else the Laneige or Aritaum boutique shops are your best bets. At my favourite online shop, Koreadepart, this product retails for USD12.20 currently.

Was there a lip balm that you like a lot? I chanced upon this, and I am loving it! What about you? 🙂

bareMinerals READY SPF 20 Mineral Foundation

Bareminerals Ready FoundationI have been using bareMinerals READY SPF 20 Mineral Foundation for a while now, and I thought its time I do a review on this amazing foundation. Why did I say its amazing? Its true it is mineral and many other foundations which are mineral based – but fact is, this is the only powder foundation that I’ve used so far that doesn’t give me outbreaks!

About the Product

Those of you out there who are cult followers of the bareMinerals product ranges will know that the popularity for this product spread like wild fire when its founder, Leslie, started selling its loose powder foundation on QVC in USA. The swirl-tap-buff sure got many ladies onboard and its now one of the go-to foundations for those who have problem skin. From the bareMinerals website, the active ingredients in this foundation are: Titanium Dioxide 11%, Zinc Oxide 18%. Inactive Ingredients: Boron Nitride, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Magnesium Silicate, Silica, Nylon-12, Humic Acids, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Jojoba Esters, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Lecithin, Betaine, Algae Extract. May Contain: Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides. This foundation also claims to increase hydration by 108% with decent coverage (important point to note for those of you who have reddish patches on your skin like me!)

Using the Product

I have used this product with the bareMinerals brush as well as other flatheaded brushes. The coverage is good if you have some reddish patches or light freckles on your skin. For those with large acne, you can still use this product, but the bumps may be amplified to show the unevenness of the skin. Moles or dark patches that show up prominently on your skin may not be covered that well so you can say that light flaws can be covered, but if you have visible flaws such as large open pores, suggest to use a primer and concealer before using this foundation. This foundation can be layered on (do use flat headed brushes, or if you are a Sigma brush fan, use a 3DHD Precision brush would do the job just fine to create a nice professional finish). I wore this foundation in the humid Singapore weather and it lasted me almost 6 to 8 hours (note: not perspiring okie). My skin did not feel as drying after removing the foundation too. I guess I can attest to the 108% more hydration. Also, I noticed that when I have small pimples, using this foundation actually help to dry them up! (Gosh!). I am not sure if its gotta do with the ingredients in this foundation but hey, it doesn’t clog and helps with drying up small pimples – thumbs up!

Where to Buy this Product

I like to stock this up when I am overseas or when I have friends travelling to USA (its a lot cheaper there). In Singapore, you can purchase it from Sephora and its always good to stock up when its your birthday month (those of you with Sephora’s white card or black card) so that you get some discounts. Otherwise, there are plenty of online shops that ships for free worldwide so do google on!

Are you using this product too? Do share with me your experience!

Brigitte – Blooming Rouge Lipstick

wpid-20150207_120426.jpgI’ve been scouring the internet for some background on Brigitte Blooming Rouge lipstick which I’ve bought it from Watsons in Singapore some time back. I was re-organizing one of my make up pouches (oops, yes I have more than 1 because I can’t decide which of the pretty colours I should bring along with me all the time! :p) and decided that perhaps I should do a review on this lipstick.

About this Product

I am not able to give more background on this product, aside from the fact that this is a Japanese cosmetic brand, which is very popular with young ladies in their 20s. The underlying concept of this brand is to mimic the ethereal look of candy sweet girls who are almost doll like (sounds very kawai!). Anyway, Brigitte is a eye makeup cosmetic brand under Sho-bi Corporation in Japan (founded in 1948), a company listed on Tokyo Stock Exchange.  The company has had several other cosmetic brands under them, including Lumikki and Playgirl. Brigitte’s focus is on eye lashes, lash wands and shadows for young girls. It is intended to be a drugstore / pharmacy brands so that it is able to reach out to its target customers. Recently, Sho-bi has also gone into the development of coloured contact lenses that would enhance the eyes. Picture this, lovely long lashes with soft eye makeup, enhanced with decorative contact lens! Anyway, I’m not going to delve too much into the main product line under Brigitte, but will talk about the Blomming Rouge Lipstick. The Blooming Rouge Lipstick is intended to be longer lasting and hydrating. There are very few lipstick shades under Brigitte and I must admit they all look lovely on asian skin! The Blooming Rouge also includes lip gloss (which I have not tried) but that too comes with limited shades.

From the Sho-bi Online Store, the ingredients of this lipstick are:  jojoba oil olive squalane (moisturizing) Color: PK-1 / PK-2 / CR-1 / RD-1 / OR-1 / BE-1component: triisostearate polyglyceryl-2, diisostearyl malic acid , macadamia nut oil, triethylhexanoin, ceresin, polyethylene, dimethylsilyl silica, candelilla wax, microcrystalline wax, tocopherol, squalene, jojoba seed oil, titanium oxide, mica, Yellow 4, Red 202, Red 201, Blue 1.

Using the Product

The Brigitte Blooming Rouge Lipstick does glide on nicely, with little to no feeling of stickiness. It did last longer than regular lipstick but I didn’t find it more hydrating than the other lipsticks that I’ve used before. I guess its usually a trade off: Longer lasting lipsticks won’t be able to deliver the level of hydration comparable to lip balms. As you can see from the ingredients of the lipstick, it contains silica so those of you who are allergic to silica or have silica on your “No” list, you may wish to avoid this product. Otherwise, I would think that this is a reasonably fine product to use if you love the shade.

Where to Buy the Product

If you live in Singapore, Watsons is where you can find this product (but do note, its not available in all Watsons. I’ll recommend the outlets in the popular shopping centres.  For those who can read Japanese, you can try checking out the Sho-bi Online Store coz its all in Japanese. I haven’t tried going onto this site to order any Brigitte products so am not able to tell you if they ship overseas.

Have you used any of Brigitte’s products before? Tell me about your experience! 🙂

Label Young – Shocking Cleansing (5-in-1 Perfect Care)

wpid-20150118_163108.jpg The Label Young Shocking Cleansing is a 5-in-1 skin cleansing “gel” that can be used all over the body. It is light and appears to have a light scent.

About the Product

According to my favourite korean online shop, Koreadepart, this product is good for face washing (including make up removal), shampoo, body wash, hand and food wash. It contains lemon oil, coconut oil, olive oil green tea extract, honey, propolis extract, shea butter, aloe vera and menthol.  The plus of this product is to maintain moisture after washing.  Accordingly, as with many of Label Young skin care products, it does not contain 16 additives namely, parabens, ethanol, carborner, mineral oil, phenoxyethanol, triethanolamine, triclosan, paraffins PEG-based, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sufate, BH Oh, benzyl alcohol, imidazolidinyl urea, petrolatum, and chlorobutanol.

Using the Product

I have used this product for facial cleansing and found that it is relatively mild, and tends to leave a thin film on your skin after rinsing. Not sure if this has to do with the moisture retention but this feeling reminds me very much of how it feels after using Dove shower cream. I didn’t experience outbreak, and I didn’t find the product particularly hydrating, and I am doubtful that I can use this for removing makeup, perhaps more for second cleanse. Another observation is that this product does not foam up as much as my usual Perfect Whip Foam, so those of you who are foam lovers like me, will find that this is rather ‘flat’.

To be honest, I am not totally impressed by this multi-use cleanser. I still prefer my current cleansing products that gives me a squeaky clean feel. Those of you who prefer something milder, I think this is still worth considering.

Where to Buy the Product

For those of you who would like to try out this product, Koreadepart and Label Young websites are the places to go do. Qoo10 is also a possible place to find (though I did not find many suppliers who carry this item).

For those of you who’d used this product, do share with me your experience by posting your comment below!

Sephora – Ultimate Oil-in-Gel Lipstick Remover

image

The Sephora Ultimate Oil-in-Gel Lipstick Remover was an unplanned purchase. I thought I should review it after use, especially of anyone of you share similar woes with removing lipstick.

About the Product
This Sephora Ultimate Oil-in-Gel Lipstick Remover claims to be super efficient in removing all kinds of lipstick, even the most long lasting one.  The texture of the product is gel like (as you can see in the picture) and is easy to use. Can hardly tell whether there is oil in the product by touching with your finger tips.

The ingredients of the product are listed in the picture embedded in this post. From Sephora website, this product is without Parabens (Yay!)

Using the Product
The instruction on the box said to apply the product on the lips and leave it for 30 seconds before removing it with the lipstick. I had tested this product with my Karen Murrell Sandstorm lipstick and it seems to be able to remove the lipstick efficiently without traces. The lips felt smooth and somewhat hydrated after wiping off the product and the lipstick, although I would have preferred if its even more hydrating. 🙂

As I do not own a long wearing lipstick, I will leave it to you, my readers, to try this product out and share your views with me. 🙂

Where to Buy the Product
I purchased this at the Sephora located at Tampines One, Singapore.
