Cure – Natural Aqua Gel

wpid-collage_20150706124542892_20150706124657369.jpg

Those of you who’d read my earlier post on exfoliation would have learnt about Cure, a product that I’d recommended for removal of dead skin cell by softening it and not through abrasion (as with scrubs). This, I find, is a safe product to use once to twice a week – though some reviews claim that you can use this more than once on the same day if you feel that your dead skin has not been completely removed (ie your skin still feel rough).

About the Product

Cure is made in Japan by Toyo Net Japan, and it is the company’s star product. You will see from the ingredient list below, that Water is the main ingredient for this peeling gel. There are, in the market, many peeling gels. In Asia, a popular peeling gel by Ginvera is one of the earliest form of peeling gel having dominated the asian market for more than 10 years. However, Cure remains different because it does not react just on any surface; and only turns into milky water when it comes into contact with dead skin. This is the point where one will gently rub to remove the softened dead skin.

Here’s the ingredient list for Cure (taken off Toyo Net website):

WATER-90.66%

Activated hydrogen water from purified water is used.

GLYCERIN-5%

Widely used moisturizing ingredient that contains high hygroscopic nature and has been used for long time.

CROSSPOLYMER (ACRYLARES/C-10-30 ALKY ACRYLATE)

The same liquid as used by ophthalmologists for eye surgery.
We use it for thickener.

DICOCODIMONIUM CHLORIDE・STEARTRIMONIUM BROMIDE

It is to respond to old deadskin. Commonly used for conditioner.

ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF EXTRACT-<1%

An expected ingredient that moisturizes and protects rough and dry skin.

GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT-<1%

Extract from ginkgo, expected to moisturize, to prevent skin mottle and freckles.

ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS (ROSEMARY) LEAF EXTRACT-<1%

It has anti-inflammation and antibacterial effects and is expected to solve skin problems solutions.

BUTYLENE GLYCOL-<1%

Color-free and scent-free moisturizing liquid

ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL-<0.33%

An ingredient contained in fruits, vegetables, and alcoholic drinks.
We use it to blend stearyltrimonium bromide

Using the Product

Some of my friends had used Cure on their unwashed faces (ie. after removing makeup or if they don’t wear makeup, to use use it before washing their face). However, I realised that it is most effective when I use it after I have washed my face, without Clarisonic (note: Clarisonic have some abrasive effects – hence mild exfoliation). An important step thereafter is to dab dry my face (no water!) before I spread 2-3 pumps of Cure onto my face. I’ll leave it to ’emulsify’ (or turn ‘milky’) before I gently and softly run my fingers over my face to lift the softened dead skin. I will find lots of bits coming off my face. I will do this for about 1 minute before I rinse with cool or room temperature water to remove the bits.  Once done, I will apply my usual toner and moisturizer to protect the new skin that was revealed.

Another use for this product, is to remove long standing grim in hard to reach areas or under the necks, back of the knees, elbows, etc. It has been used on children below 12 years of age to remove grime that they did not wash off during shower – effective!

Where to Buy the Product

Cure is widely available in Watsons in Singapore. This Japanese product is also available in Japan drugstores (I read this somewhere). In Singapore, it retail for about S$42 a bottle but one bottle can last you a few months. Users have to remember that once you open the bottle, you should finish it within a year (the effectiveness will weaken since it does not have the usual preservatives as the website claims).

This is a staple in my bathroom. I hope it will become yours too! 🙂

Label Young – Shocking Mist (Skin & Essence; Lotion & Cream) 2in1 Multi Skin Care

image

As you know I have been posting my reviews for Label Young products and indeed I have received high hit rates from my review on their Shocking series (check out my archives!). Most of the searches are made from Vietnam, Thailand and I am grateful for readers from south east asia! Thank you!!

Alright, back to this post on Label Young Shocking Mist 1 and 2.

I have been trying out this product in the day and night for about 2 weeks now,so I think it should be a reasonable point to share what I think of this product.

About the Product
Will update this section when I manage to find out what it contains.

Using the Product
The suggested method is to spray Step 1 on the face (ie the Toner), pat in the product before spraying on Step 2 (ie the “Cream”). What I did was to spray Step 1 onto the palm of my hand before patting the product on my face for absorption. Then I will spray Step 2 onto my hand, spread it between two palms to lightly “warm” the product before i pat the product onto my skin.

The Toner looks gel-ish in the bottle but it liquidfies when it was sprayed and it was liquid once in contact with my hand. The Cream looks like a cream gel in the bottle but when it is sprayed onto my hand, its texture feels like a watery mousse. Now here’s what I find rather interesting: as you know Singapore climate has high humidity and its tropical weather all year round. I notice that unlike some of the products that I have tried previously, my perspiration seem to emerge ON TOP of the skin. Perspiration did not seem to melt the cream or push it off my face. Its as if the cream is water proof! 😁

When I apply my bareminerals foundation over my skin, the cream seems to behave like a primer and held my foundation better (of course it cannot compare with my favourite Laura Mercier primer). Even after moving around for an hour out in the hot tropical weather in Singapore, about 70% of my foundation remained in place. This is completely different from if I had used some other products where my foundation would have ran and left patches on my face.

Will I buy this again? Well the product didn’t break me out and it did seem to have the right texture for my skin. I feel rather refreshed using this product and it also seem to give decent level of hydration for my skin especially when I work in air conditioned environment most of the time. So YES! I will include this product on my repurchase list.

Where to Buy the Product
Koreadepart (EN) is my go-to place. Qoo10 is another online spot that I will grab this product. Else, check out Label Young official website!

Dr. Wu – Intensive Acnecur Spot Treatment with BHA

Dr Wu Intesive Acnecur Spot Treatment with BHA.jpgFirst let me apologise for the blur image of the product on the left. 🙂 As you can see I’m clearly not that good in the photography department (HAHAHA!!) Anyway, here’s my other Dr. Wu product that I absolutely love – for my acne of course. I had previously blogged about the Dr. Wu Mandelic Acid product that helps to remove dead skin cells without causing irritation to my sensitive skin. this is yet another product that I would recommend to those who want to treat their pimples and pus-oozing acnes (okay I’m being too graphic).

About the Product

From the Dr Wu website in Singapore, it states that this is an award winning product. It goes on to say that “DR.WU’s unique ACNECUR formula is clinically proven to clear up blemishes and also visibly reduce blemish marks. This revolutionary blemish treatment contains a blemish-fighting complex, Bio-Sulfur and Salicylic Acid, to reduce and prevent acne problems in all stages and also helps existing pimples and acne disappear quickly. It also contains high potency Niacinamide (B3) and Tranexamic Acid to even out skin tone and visibly reduce marks left behind by blemishes.”  The benefits of the main ingredients are as follows:

Niacinamide (B3): Its anti-inflammatory properties help to soothe the skin and promote skin rejuvenation.

Sulphur: A vital mineral that is a natural antiseptic with healing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Tranexamic Acid: A whitening ingredient known to prevent spots and blemishes.

Salicylic Acid: An effective acne treatment ingredient that helps to clear and prevent pimples.

The key ingredients in the product are: Niacinamide, Sulfur, Tranexamic Acid, Salicylic Acid,
Target: Oily and Acne Prone Skin

Using The Product

I usually will apply this product in small quantities on the inflammed pimple or pus-filled acne. This product will not work well with acne that is just severely inflammed and has no sign of pus coming out. The product will dry out the pus and it will come off by itself when you wash your face etc. There is no need to use our itchy fingers to peel it off. Remember, peeling it off means scars!! This product is safe if you apply 1-3 times a day (ie morning, noon and night) but so far, I’ve only applied it at night coz I do not want to dry out my acne too much. It contains BHA so please wear sunscreen if you are applying this in the day time.

Where to Buy the Product

In Singapore, you can by this product from Watsons. Or buy them when you’re in Taiwan!

Have you tried any of Dr. Wu’s product? Drop me a comment if you have and let me know how it has worked for you! 🙂

Laneige – Moisture Lip Balm

Laneige Moisture Lip Balm.jpgI bought the Laneige Moisture Lip Balm when I was in Seoul last year. This was part of my Myeong Dong haul in June 2014. It was not a planned purchase. Rather, it was because I was experiencing dry and chappy lips, and I bought it out of desperation to heal my lips.

About the Product

This product, as you can see from the image on the left, dispense out of a tube. Its a small tube no longer than a 15cm short ruler. It is very portable and I carry this around me every day in my makeup purse. The product is an opaque gel like texture that is easy to apply. From the Laneige website, it said that this is a “Lip Balm with triple effects: hydrating + healing chapped/dry lips + preventing the signs of aging lips”. It also went on to elaborate that for:

1) Hydrating effect

Water Friendly Polyols Technology gives deep hydration. Also its Lip Care Complex provides an Immediate hydrating effect and long-term moisturizing. (Oil complex prescription with peach stone, apricot stone & plum stone)

2) Healing chapped/dry lips

Water Friendly Polyols Technology & Lip Care Complex prevent dryness and heals chapped lips.

3) Preventing the signs of aging lips

The ingredient, Adenosine, has an anti-wrinkle effect and stimulates cell function. Also Texture Enhancing Technology makes lip texture soft and immediately adds energy to dry and inelastic lip.

Using the Product

I like the texture of the gel, and how easy it is to apply on my lips. Usually, with a cleaned finger, I will dap a 2mm drop and smooth it onto my lips. It helps with moderately dry lips (ie mild peeling cases) but I didn’t find that it works as quickly or effectively for severely chapped lips. I would usually apply this before I use my favourite VDL Triple Lip Tint just to boost the moisture level. Typically, after using this item, I will find the dry skin falling off to reveal smooth and hydrated lips. This tube of 15ml can last quite a while if you are only applying the product on need basis. It is non oily and can work as a subtle gloss if you do not like your gloss to deliver high shine.

Buying the Product

This product is available in most Laneige counters. If you are in Myeong Dong, you may be able to find this product in places such as Watsons. Else the Laneige or Aritaum boutique shops are your best bets. At my favourite online shop, Koreadepart, this product retails for USD12.20 currently.

Was there a lip balm that you like a lot? I chanced upon this, and I am loving it! What about you? 🙂

Label Young – Shocking Cleansing (5-in-1 Perfect Care)

wpid-20150118_163108.jpg The Label Young Shocking Cleansing is a 5-in-1 skin cleansing “gel” that can be used all over the body. It is light and appears to have a light scent.

About the Product

According to my favourite korean online shop, Koreadepart, this product is good for face washing (including make up removal), shampoo, body wash, hand and food wash. It contains lemon oil, coconut oil, olive oil green tea extract, honey, propolis extract, shea butter, aloe vera and menthol.  The plus of this product is to maintain moisture after washing.  Accordingly, as with many of Label Young skin care products, it does not contain 16 additives namely, parabens, ethanol, carborner, mineral oil, phenoxyethanol, triethanolamine, triclosan, paraffins PEG-based, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sufate, BH Oh, benzyl alcohol, imidazolidinyl urea, petrolatum, and chlorobutanol.

Using the Product

I have used this product for facial cleansing and found that it is relatively mild, and tends to leave a thin film on your skin after rinsing. Not sure if this has to do with the moisture retention but this feeling reminds me very much of how it feels after using Dove shower cream. I didn’t experience outbreak, and I didn’t find the product particularly hydrating, and I am doubtful that I can use this for removing makeup, perhaps more for second cleanse. Another observation is that this product does not foam up as much as my usual Perfect Whip Foam, so those of you who are foam lovers like me, will find that this is rather ‘flat’.

To be honest, I am not totally impressed by this multi-use cleanser. I still prefer my current cleansing products that gives me a squeaky clean feel. Those of you who prefer something milder, I think this is still worth considering.

Where to Buy the Product

For those of you who would like to try out this product, Koreadepart and Label Young websites are the places to go do. Qoo10 is also a possible place to find (though I did not find many suppliers who carry this item).

For those of you who’d used this product, do share with me your experience by posting your comment below!

Label Young – Shocking Cream Pore Ver. (aka Panku Cream)

image
Shocking Cream Pore Version

The Label Young Shocking Pore Cream is the other Label Young Pore series product that I have yet to review. This Shocking Pore Cream is to be used together with the Panku Skin and Lotion, which aims to tighten and hydrate the pores as well as deliver whitening and anti-aging effects.

About the Product
The Label Young Shocking Pore Cream reminds me of thick clear gel. The purpose of this cream was to tighten and even up the pores, as in the case of using a primer to “flatten” the gaps created by the open pores so that the skin looks smooth and glowing.  It also works well in hydrating the skin. Compared to the Shocking Skin and Lotion, the Shocking Pore Cream seems to do better at hydration, if I need to choose the most effective of the two.

From the Koreadepart website, the the Shocking Pore Cream’s main ingredients are Bentonite (containing more than 60 kinds of natural minerals, kaolin, ECOCERT organic ingredients, soybean fermentation extract. This product is also, from Koreadepart, recommended for those with big pores or pores with blackheads.  I didnt find significant changes to my pores but the hydration seems to be the more satisfying outcome.

Using the Product
It was recommended that one applies the Shocking Pore Cream right after the Panku Skin and Lotion, or to chill the gel in the fridge before applying on the face as a mask. I have been reminded about my pores clogging easily so did not try to use the Shocking Pore Cream as a mask (seals up the pores). However I did use it like a cream that enhance the hydration of the Panku Skin and Lotion. I only use a small pea size at a time and warm it in my hand before I spread it on my face.

After using the Label young Pore Series for almost a month, I like the Panku Skin and Lotion, but find that it is not moisturizing enough when I am in an airconditioned or low humidity environment. The Shocking Pore Cream helps to improve hydration by acting as an additional layer to seal in moisture. No outbreaks so far.

Where to Buy the Product
As with all the Label young Products, you can purchase the Shocking Pore Cream via:

1) Koreadepart
2) Qoo10
3) Label Young Official Website

Have you tried the Shocking Pore Series? Tell me about your experience! 🙂

Sephora – Ultimate Oil-in-Gel Lipstick Remover

image

The Sephora Ultimate Oil-in-Gel Lipstick Remover was an unplanned purchase. I thought I should review it after use, especially of anyone of you share similar woes with removing lipstick.

About the Product
This Sephora Ultimate Oil-in-Gel Lipstick Remover claims to be super efficient in removing all kinds of lipstick, even the most long lasting one.  The texture of the product is gel like (as you can see in the picture) and is easy to use. Can hardly tell whether there is oil in the product by touching with your finger tips.

The ingredients of the product are listed in the picture embedded in this post. From Sephora website, this product is without Parabens (Yay!)

Using the Product
The instruction on the box said to apply the product on the lips and leave it for 30 seconds before removing it with the lipstick. I had tested this product with my Karen Murrell Sandstorm lipstick and it seems to be able to remove the lipstick efficiently without traces. The lips felt smooth and somewhat hydrated after wiping off the product and the lipstick, although I would have preferred if its even more hydrating. 🙂

As I do not own a long wearing lipstick, I will leave it to you, my readers, to try this product out and share your views with me. 🙂

Where to Buy the Product
I purchased this at the Sephora located at Tampines One, Singapore.

Label Young – Shocking Toner Ver Coming Soon Kiss and Shocking Cream Ver. 3

image
Parabens free korean skincare products

Labelyoung first impressed the korean community with its Shocking Cream ver. 1, through blinded street tests where people were asked to make a comparison of the quality and effectiveness of the cream compared to creams already in the market. Since then, it has hit the korean community like a storm and coined as one of the most popular skincare products on social media.  I discovered Labelyoung’s Shocking Toner, Shocking Oil and Shocking Cream through Qoo10 (equivalent of Gmarket in Korea and Rakuten in Japan) where a shop was carrying these products. I scoured the internet for reviews and product information before I decided to give these products a try.

I have used the Shocking Toner Special Kiss ver and Shocking Cream ver 3 for more than a month now. You will notice from the image on this blog that I have barely used a third of the toner. I am about to finish my cream as I write this blog, and yes my toner is still 60% full. Accordingly, the 250ml bottle of the toner should last me about 100days. I think it will last me longer because each time I only use a red bean sized dollop.  I dix, however, realise thst had I sed the toner in an airconditioned room, I could have really finished my toner in 100 days.

Shocking Toner Special Kiss ver
This Shocking Toner, according to Labelyoung, is purple in colour because of the berries it had used to make the gel in the bottle. No parabens or harmful  chemicals were used in the manufacturing of the Shocking Series because the company believes in use of natural products for the benefit of our skin. The Shocking Toner is gel like and has a light scent. It aims to deliver hydration, whitening and anti-aging effects and is really light for humid temperature in asia. As you know, I have acne prone combination skin with pores that clog easily. Interestingly, when I started using the Shocking Toner, I had tried to use without the Shocking Cream, just to test if it will cause any breakouts. It does not, and it was slightly cooling when I apply it (note: you can put the toner in the fridge to chill it before using after you have cleansed your face). If your skin is not overly drying, you can also apply the Shocking Toner as a moisturizer.

Shocking Cream Ver. 3
The Shocking Cream, nicknamed Seonnyeo Cream in korean, is made of natural ingredience including 10,000mg of Phreatic Water and promises to deliver anti-aging and whitening effects; and claims that it is suitable for combination oily skin. I am generally fair so I cannot tell if whitening works. However, I must admit that this cream was really unique because the texture seems to be oil-free yet feels ‘stringy’ when you use the spatula provided to ‘scoop’ out a pea-sized content. It was like scooping out a really really watery macha (or in hokkien “muah chee” or glutinous cakes). Once you have the product on your hand, the product turns into a really light cream and you can warm it with your palms before you spread the cream on your face. I find the hydration is sufficient, but oil control wise, it does seem to have some effects (note: your face will not be oil-free totally, just that the oil may surface later).

I really like Label Young’s products so far, and have also ventured to use its Shocking Oil on days I find I need further hydration. No only did my skin stay acne free and more radiant (was told my face looked as if I had a facial after using it for a month), it also feel less ‘stressed’ because the products do not contain compounds that could irritate my skin.  I have since purchased other Shocking Toners and Creams to try when I have finished with the above.

Where to Buy Label Young Products
Label Young Toner and Creams are less than S$30 each on average.  A few ways to purchase Label Young Products:
1) Visit Qoo10 and look for the shop “q-trading” or search for “labelyoung” – if you live in Singapore or Malaysia;
2) Google for “koreandepart” and visit the international website which carries lots of korean cosmetics and products; or
3) Visit http://www.labelyoung.com and make sure you turn on the translation coz the website is all written in Korean. For those of you who are making a trip to Seoul, just to let you know I could not find the Label Young products in any of the shops in MyeongDong. It might be better if you have some Korean friends who lived in Korea and could order the products for you online.

If you are looking for natural products or are wondering which product to buy next to try, you can check out Label Young and give it a try!
