Blackmores – Natural Vitamin E Cream

Hi everyone! Blackmores is an Australian brand known to many. Those living in Singapore will wonder where I got this coz its not available in Singapore!

I first bought this via Taobao coz there was a rave online that one of the famous chinese actress was seen using this on her porceline fine face. Half believing the rave, I bought it because Blackmores is a reliable brand for health supplements and I was, at that point, rather bothered with the texture of my skin – leaning towards the dry side and prone to scars due to my acne prone skin. The airconditioning was also very dry at my workplace. So I ordered for my first tube!

About the Product

The ingredient’s list is shown in the picture above. It is a white cream that on first look seems to be thick but goes on smoothly when applied on the skin. It is not oily and provides a layer of protection on the skin. The post acne blemishes also seem to clear out a lot faster. My skin feels hydrated and less dry after a day working in the office, though its true the product will slide off after perspiration.

How to Use

After toning, apply a pea sized drop of the cream all over the face and spread out till it is all absorbed. You can also try applying the cream on dry spots to improve the hydration. Vitamin E healing properties works wonders!

Where to Buy

I have not found any vendors that carries this product. The only way is probably to buy it when in Australia (its cheaper!) or from online drugstores that delivers to Singapore. I just stocked up another tube when a family member went to Australia recently coz one tube has lasted for at least 3 months (I only need a small redbean sized drop) and I am still using!

Abidis – Locion Equilibriante sin Alcohol (Balancing Lotion with no Alcohol)

wp-1486092221476.jpgOkay this is a product that I must talk about. Its Abidis Locion Equilibriante (Abidis Balancing Lotion). It has no Alcohol and aims to hydrate the skin while you tone it.

About the Product

I was told by my beautician at Face Essensuals that Abidis is a Spanish brand and they usually produce their products in small quantities. This particular product is a Balancing Lotion that is suitable for combination skin or oily skin. It has a minty flora scent and the skin feels hydrated when the lotion is applied (but not hydrated enough to be used on its own). When the watery Lotion drys out, you will feel a very thin coat on your skin that seems to seal in the moisture. You can use any moisturizer on top of this Lotion. The Lotion is bluish green in colour (I have used up the bottle in the picture) and is very watery, often leaving a mild cooling sensation after you apply for a few seconds.

Using the Product

Currently, I am using this Lotion together with my Physiogel Calming Relief Face Cream. The Lotion is not drying and beats the other Toners  or Lotions from the japanese or korean off the rack products. It did improve my skin hydration in the day and helped me stave away from acne due to dry or dehydrated skin. At night, I use another Abidis product on top of the above (less is more) to boost healing and recovery of my skin. I hope to share it with you soon.

Where to Purchase the Item

I bought this from my beautician, Face Essensuals, located at Midpoint Orchard along Orchard Road. You will not find this product on the shelves and will have to purchase through salons or main distributor for this product. The photo of the product in the picture is the old packaging and retails at S$56 a bottle. Please call Serina at Face Essensuals to order your bottle as stock is usually limited to ensure freshness.

Nivea – Intensive Moisture Body Milk

collage_20160320100130312_20160320100228754.jpgEveryone who goes to drugstore will know Nivea. It is known for its pots and pots of oh-so-luscious-and-creamy moisturising creams, and you just know that your skin will feel well hydrated once you slather on one of those pots.  If I ran out of body creams, Nivea will be the first brand that comes into my mind.

I first bought it for my mom who was warded in the hospital. The air in the room seems to be drying, and I noticed that my mom (who was already on drips) had wrinkly dry skin on her arms. So I bought one small bottle for her to slather on after her shower. The skin on her arms did seem to look and feel more hydrated so I decided to use it on myself too.

You see, the skin on my legs do feel quite dry and if I do not work it out (also known as sitting-around-and-binge-watching-TV at home), the skin oils do not seem to surface and I will experience dry and itchy skin the next day. So as a precaution, I will slather on body creams to hydrate the skin before I leave the house. However, the creams tend to take time to “dry out”, so I needed something quick. So when I started using Nivea Intensive Moisture Body Milk, it does seem to solve my problem. It was fast drying (sinks into my skin in seconds!) and I do not feel the annoying dry itch on my legs.

This is definitely my go to product but do remember not to keep it when the scent is gone or smells “wierd”. It just means the product has gone bad. 🙂

Are you a regular user of Nivea? What do you think of this product?

Skincare Tip – Caring for Dry Patches

Hi all, recently I had a little problem with dry patches. As you know, it was a difficult period for my family when my mom was hospitalised. I’m so glad she is discharged and could be treated at home. Now I can find some time to take care of my skin, which strangely, has gone quite dry of late despite the unusually rainy season in sunny Singapore. The dry patches are on the lower sections of my cheeks and I was quite terrified because I thought dry patches should be almost unheard of in a country where humidity is very high. So what did I do?

Cleansing

No excuses for not cleaning your face after a long day at work or outside. Grime will accumulate and we should learn to clean them off our skin with appropriate cleansers. During the period where I had dry patches (no itch), I continued to clean my skin with my foam cleansers and clarisonic. Please don’t be alarmed, I was very gentle with my clarisonic because the other sections of my face is still normal to oily. The dry patches are only cleansed with my foam cleansers. If you are experiencing itch as well, please switch to milder cleansers and stay away from clarisonic for that day and use Foreo instead. I will recommend the use of Bioderma Sensibio to clean your face or mild cleansing lotion that can be wiped away with soft cotton.

Toning

Some of the Japanese products such as Albion and Shiseido adopts different skincare philosophy and would recommend to reverse the wash-tone-moisturize process. If you are following the usual wash-tone-moisturize procedure for skin care, please use non-alcoholic toners to sooth the already sensitive dry patch.

Moisturize

Regardless of whether you are following the 3 step process or you are adopting Albion or Shiseido skincare steps, I suggest you whip out a hydrating mask like the My Beauty Diary Aloe Vera Mask and put on your face for 15 mins. Massage in the lotion from the mask and use a tissue to dab away excess before applying the following:

– For 3 Step > Apply Facial Oil (e.g. Neal’s Yard Remedies Rehydrating Rose) and/or Facial Cream that works for your skin

– For those using Albion > Apply Albion Herbal Oil Gold before applying Exage Moist Crystal Milk II and Skin Conditioner respectively

Your skin should feel a lot more hydrated the next day. I use facial oils for the next two days and it helped to keep my dry patches hydrated. In fact, I noticed that some of the dry skin flaked off when I gently massage the facial oil onto my skin. I also choose to use foundations that will increase my skin hydration (e.g. bareMinerals Ready Foundation). My skin is now smoother and more hydrated. Of course, drinking lots of water will complement your efforts to keep your skin hydrated.

Hope the above tip will help address your dry patches esp if you live in humid country like me! 🙂

Dr. Wu – Intensive Acnecur Spot Treatment with BHA

Dr Wu Intesive Acnecur Spot Treatment with BHA.jpgFirst let me apologise for the blur image of the product on the left. 🙂 As you can see I’m clearly not that good in the photography department (HAHAHA!!) Anyway, here’s my other Dr. Wu product that I absolutely love – for my acne of course. I had previously blogged about the Dr. Wu Mandelic Acid product that helps to remove dead skin cells without causing irritation to my sensitive skin. this is yet another product that I would recommend to those who want to treat their pimples and pus-oozing acnes (okay I’m being too graphic).

About the Product

From the Dr Wu website in Singapore, it states that this is an award winning product. It goes on to say that “DR.WU’s unique ACNECUR formula is clinically proven to clear up blemishes and also visibly reduce blemish marks. This revolutionary blemish treatment contains a blemish-fighting complex, Bio-Sulfur and Salicylic Acid, to reduce and prevent acne problems in all stages and also helps existing pimples and acne disappear quickly. It also contains high potency Niacinamide (B3) and Tranexamic Acid to even out skin tone and visibly reduce marks left behind by blemishes.”  The benefits of the main ingredients are as follows:

Niacinamide (B3): Its anti-inflammatory properties help to soothe the skin and promote skin rejuvenation.

Sulphur: A vital mineral that is a natural antiseptic with healing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Tranexamic Acid: A whitening ingredient known to prevent spots and blemishes.

Salicylic Acid: An effective acne treatment ingredient that helps to clear and prevent pimples.

The key ingredients in the product are: Niacinamide, Sulfur, Tranexamic Acid, Salicylic Acid,
Target: Oily and Acne Prone Skin

Using The Product

I usually will apply this product in small quantities on the inflammed pimple or pus-filled acne. This product will not work well with acne that is just severely inflammed and has no sign of pus coming out. The product will dry out the pus and it will come off by itself when you wash your face etc. There is no need to use our itchy fingers to peel it off. Remember, peeling it off means scars!! This product is safe if you apply 1-3 times a day (ie morning, noon and night) but so far, I’ve only applied it at night coz I do not want to dry out my acne too much. It contains BHA so please wear sunscreen if you are applying this in the day time.

Where to Buy the Product

In Singapore, you can by this product from Watsons. Or buy them when you’re in Taiwan!

Have you tried any of Dr. Wu’s product? Drop me a comment if you have and let me know how it has worked for you! 🙂

Marc Anthony – Moroccan Argan Oil

I was introduced Marc Anthony Moroccan Oil when I received it as a gift from a relative. This is an amazingly fragrant oil that is neither too thick nor too thin to be applied on my hair.  These days, I carry it around with me whenever I go to the gym or vacation.

Marc Anthony Moroccan Oil
Lightweight moisturizer for dry hair

Stored in a slim bottle that is about 15 cm tall, the oil that in translucent yellow can be pumped onto the hand (for me 1 pump is sufficient) and applied to moist or dried hair. Personally I prefer to apply this to the hair ends when it is still moist from toweling dry. For those of you who use the hair dryer, make sure the hair is not fully dried when you apply this oil before continuing with further drying.

I thought the oil carries a fragrant jasmine / frangipani scent with nutty undertones. It feels calming when I apply before I go to bed. When you wake up the next morning, the hair looks well nourished and knot free.

I loved this bottle so much that I bought another bottle so that I can have one bottle ready at home.

Go grab a bottle from your nearby pharmacy or Watsons now!
