5 Facts About Me

1) At this point in my life, I am happily married to a wonderful man who supports me in almost everything that I do. We do not have any children but we believe if our destiny has it, we will. 🙂

2) I am a person of wide and varied interests, ranging from reading about astronomy, to arts and crafts and to metaphysics. I am a certified fengshui practitioner so I am sensitive to the balance of energies around me.

3) I practice meditation through the use of an app, called Headspace. It helps me find internal calm, clears my head during stressful work weeks and helps me sleep better.

4) I am generally an introvert, but shopping is my favourite find-my-sanity activity. I love walking into large drug stores (Watsons, Sephora, John Little, to name a few) or hypermarkets. Just checking out the latest on the shelves makes me feel a lot better after a long tiring week.

Laneige – Moisture Lip Balm

Laneige Moisture Lip Balm.jpgI bought the Laneige Moisture Lip Balm when I was in Seoul last year. This was part of my Myeong Dong haul in June 2014. It was not a planned purchase. Rather, it was because I was experiencing dry and chappy lips, and I bought it out of desperation to heal my lips.

About the Product

This product, as you can see from the image on the left, dispense out of a tube. Its a small tube no longer than a 15cm short ruler. It is very portable and I carry this around me every day in my makeup purse. The product is an opaque gel like texture that is easy to apply. From the Laneige website, it said that this is a “Lip Balm with triple effects: hydrating + healing chapped/dry lips + preventing the signs of aging lips”. It also went on to elaborate that for:

1) Hydrating effect

Water Friendly Polyols Technology gives deep hydration. Also its Lip Care Complex provides an Immediate hydrating effect and long-term moisturizing. (Oil complex prescription with peach stone, apricot stone & plum stone)

2) Healing chapped/dry lips

Water Friendly Polyols Technology & Lip Care Complex prevent dryness and heals chapped lips.

3) Preventing the signs of aging lips

The ingredient, Adenosine, has an anti-wrinkle effect and stimulates cell function. Also Texture Enhancing Technology makes lip texture soft and immediately adds energy to dry and inelastic lip.

Using the Product

I like the texture of the gel, and how easy it is to apply on my lips. Usually, with a cleaned finger, I will dap a 2mm drop and smooth it onto my lips. It helps with moderately dry lips (ie mild peeling cases) but I didn’t find that it works as quickly or effectively for severely chapped lips. I would usually apply this before I use my favourite VDL Triple Lip Tint just to boost the moisture level. Typically, after using this item, I will find the dry skin falling off to reveal smooth and hydrated lips. This tube of 15ml can last quite a while if you are only applying the product on need basis. It is non oily and can work as a subtle gloss if you do not like your gloss to deliver high shine.

Buying the Product

This product is available in most Laneige counters. If you are in Myeong Dong, you may be able to find this product in places such as Watsons. Else the Laneige or Aritaum boutique shops are your best bets. At my favourite online shop, Koreadepart, this product retails for USD12.20 currently.

Was there a lip balm that you like a lot? I chanced upon this, and I am loving it! What about you? 🙂

Fakes – My brush with fake Bioderma Sensibio

Remember the last time you bought something really cheap online, thinking that you have scored a bargain with your haul? I made a shocking discovery recently so I thought I should alert all beauty junkies like me who would at times take the risk to buy something cheap online.

I bought a batch of 4 bottles of Sensibio from a vendor six months back from an online shop. There was a 1 for 1 sale and I thought, geez… thats really good deal! So i placed the order and you can imagine how thrilled I was when they arrived.

Fast forward 6 months later, I finally finished my bottle of Bioderma Sensibio that i had purchased at retail price from local pharmacy. So I thought hey, I can now open one of the four bottles to use now! The bottles of Sensibio looks genuine as the vendor had claimed. However, my first reaction when I wiped the solution with my cotton pad was “hmmm, this doesn’t feel quite right… its quite slippery and foamy…”. I thought I was just too tired, so I used it again for the next few days just want to be absolutely certain that something is not right. On the fifth day, I couldn’t take the soapiness any longer, so i started googling to see if there was supposed to be new formula in the product or whether I was over reacting. I chances upon a blog which described how Sensibio should feel like on our skin, and the texture of fakes. Then I recalled that I still had a small sample bottle of Sensibio tucked somewhere in my room (bought it from pharmacy) so I broke the seal to make a comparison. True enough, the Sensibio that I’d  bought from the pharmacy was exactly how it should have been, but the one I bought online at one for one promotion was way too soapy and had a faint apple scent.

The fortunate part of this story is that I did manage to obtain refund for 3 out of 4 bottles. The vendor refunded without question, and I am now left with 4 bottles of fakes in my room.

From this I learnt that I should have been more prudent and careful with those super sales online, although there are genuine sales around. I just want to caution fellow readers out there to be more careful in dealing with vendors who claim to import products in parallel.

How about you? Have you experienced similar incidents?

Tarte – Amazonian Clay 12-hr Blush

Tarte Blusher.jpgI have this Tarte Blusher for some time and this I must say it is a prized purchase because the colour lasts for at least 6 hours when I am indoors in sunny and humid Singapore.

About the Product

Those of you who are frequents to Sephora would know about Tarte Cosmetics. From the website, it says that “This 12-hour blush universally benefits all skin types for a fade-free, flawless finish in shades ranging from soft to vivid and matte to shimmer to suit a wide variety of skin tones.  Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep product in place while also hydrating the skin naturally to restore moisture, reducing the appearance of dry, flaky skin.” It also claims to:

“ALWAYS FORMULATED WITHOUT: parabens • mineral oil • phthalates • triclosan • sodium lauryl sulfate • gluten”

Using the Product

I am using Dollface and this is definitely my favourite blusher for now! Not only does it last for hours without fading (well unless you rub your cheeks from time to time and that will certainly rub off the colour). I have used bare minerals blusher but the staying power is not as long. I work on average 9 to 12 hours a day and I have normal to oily combination skin. Its just amazing to still be able to see the blusher on my cheeks after such long working hours. What’s more, I am able to gradually layer on the blusher for darker shades – unlike some other blushers that I’ve used where it can look too dark when I dust on another round of blusher. Its great for creating naturally pink cheeks! *love it love it!!* Oil control wise, I am not sure coz my face can get really oily – and I attribute it to dry airconditioning and not drinking sufficient fluids in office. But overall I still think this is THE BEST mineral blusher – ever!

Where to Buy the Product

Two places: your nearest Sephora and Tarte Cosmetics website!

Are you a tartelette too? Tell me about your experience with the Amazonian Clay Blush!
